A massive, four-year effort to renovate an 11.5-mile stretch of I-40/I-440 in Raleigh is coming to an end.

Practically all that remains for the N.C. Department of Transportation’s “Project Fortify” is a series of lane revamps.

Project Fortify is 75 percent complete, says NCDOT spokesman Steve Abbott. “The only thing in our way now will be if it rains.”
