Matson Inc.’s board of directors has appointed company President and CEO Matthew J. Cox as new chairman of the board. He will replace Walter A. Dods Jr. in the role, effective Thursday.

Dods, the former chairman and CEO of First Hawaiian Bank, retires from the board in accordance with the company’s corporate governance guidelines limiting a board members’ age. Additionally, the board of directors designated Jeffrey N. Watanabe to serve as the lead independent director of the Matson board.
