Many know American Automobile Association as the membership organization for auto insurance and travel discounts. But the car business is changing, and AAA wants to change with it.

The 115-year-old nonprofit said it will launch a car-sharing service called Gig in Berkeley and Oakland. For now, Gig only provides one-way service, meaning trips start and end in its defined East Bay zone. Smartphone users will be able to locate and unlock one of the cars out of its fleet of 250 Toyota Priuses.
