The Birmingham City Council on Tuesday approved an ordinance allowing low-speed transportation providers like Joyride to operate within the city limits.

The item was originally considered in February, but councilors delayed consideration for a month to make time for a public hearing.

The move effectively opens the door for companies like Joyride, which operates golf-cart-based cabs and tours in Tuscaloosa, Nashville, Knoxville and other Southern metros.
