A group of homeowners along the Outer Banks have filed a federal lawsuit in hopes of halting plans for a 2.4-mile bridge near Rodanthe.

The group, called Save Our Sound OBX, is led by plaintiff Mark Haines. He accuses the N.C. Department of Transportation of striking a “backroom deal” with the Southern Environmental Law Center (SELC) and failing to consider all environmental implications when they chose the location for the Rodanthe bridge.

Haines lives in Cincinnati, but owns two rental properties…
