All five company groups that entered the competition to become the first operator of California’s high-speed rail system have been approved to enter the second and final phase of the competition, the rail authority announced Friday.

Choosing a commercial operator is one of the key items on the California High-Speed Rail Authority’s to-do list for the coming year identified by outgoing CEO Jeff Morales.
