Wayne Newton, who began his Alaska Airlines career at the bottom of the ladder as a ramp agent in 1988, has been named the carrier’s new vice president of airport operations and customer service.

In his new role, Newton oversees Alaska Airlines (NYSE: ALK) airport operations in 84 cities and more than 2,700 employees and contractors.

He replaces Jeff Butler, who is now Alaska Airlines’ vice president of guest and inflight services – Virgin America, the airline said.
