N.C. Department of Transportation is executing a plan to replace bridges and repave a heavily trafficked stretch of Interstate 95.

NCDOT has awarded a $53.1 million contract to Fred Smith Co. of Raleigh to repave a seven-mile stretch in Johnston County. The section of road, just south of Lizzie Mill Road and the Wilson County line, sees nearly 36,000 vehicles per day. By 2037, NCDOT projects put the traffic swelling to nearly 42,000 vehicles.
