Japanese automakers Toyota Motor Co. and Mazda Motor Corp. plan on building a new $1.6 billion, 4,000-work auto plant in the U.S.

That is according to reports Thursday night from Reuters, CNBC and others.

Toyota (NYSE: TM) and Mazda (TYO:7261) would produce cars and crossover vehicles at the plant, according to the reports.

Toyota and Mazda are also partnering on electric vehicles.

A site for the potential plant has not been named in the reports.
