Monsoon storms hit Phoenix hard Thursday night delaying and temporarily grounding flights at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport, flooding areas of the airport as well as the U.S. 60 freeway in Tempe and causing power outages and down trees.

The Phoenix Zoo will also be closed Friday to clean up from the big summer storm in usually arid Arizona.

As much as 2 inches of rain hit parts of downtown Phoenix and the East Valley in less than 30 minutes, according to the National Weather Service.
