The Arizona transportation board approved on Friday a $1.9 million bid from a Mesa-based contractor to install a wrong-way driver detection system on a 15-mile stretch of the Interstate 17 highway.

Construction is slated to begin in early August, and testing is scheduled to begin in early 2018, said Arizona Department of Transportation spokesman Doug Nintzel.
