When it comes to flying, passengers are becoming increasingly aware of their menu options (among other things). As more airlines begin to up their game, here are the ones offering the best in-flight meal–without the first class price.
Aegean Airlines
This airline’s “Discover Greek Cuisine” program offers health conscious Greek-inspired dishes from award-winning chef Nikos Sarantos, a chairman of prestigious culinary organizations Greek Chef’s Club and Eurotoque.
Austrian Airlines
If a standard breakfast (looks something like a packaged pound cake) doesn’t sound so appetizing to you, pre-order an upgrade for an extra €15. It’ll get you a fancy scrambler served in a personal-sized skillet.
Qantas
Australia’s popular airline has been working with chef Neil Perry for over 20 years, marking the longest relationship of its kind in the aviation industry. Its economy menu includes a honey chicken salad with roasted vegetables and spiced lamb koftas.
British Airways
When the 2012 Olympics brought London plenty of attention, British brought on celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal (who runs a Michelin-winning restaurant) to upgrade its menu. Who said poached king prawns were just for first class?
Hawaiian Airlines
Esteemed Hawaiian chef Chai Chaowasaree creates dishes inspired by the unique ingredients of the island. cuisine from the islands. A four-course meal with a salmon entree? Yes, please.
Air New Zealand
Peter Gordon, the airline’s executive chef, has raised the meal standards of the economy class to include local wines and starters like kumara and pumpkin salad with honey mustard dressing.
