Repealing many Obamacare provisions would lead to 27 million uninsured in 2020, according to an estimate from the Congressional Budget Office published Wednesday.
That figure would climb to 32 million by 2026, the CBO said in its new report.
The CBO also projected that average premiums in the individual health insurance market would rise by about 25 percent relative to the current Obamacare law next year,
That increase “would reach about 50 percent in 2020, and premiums would about double by 2026,” the CBO report found.
CBO also said that repealing many provisions of the Affordable Care Act, as Obamacare is formally known, would decrease federal deficits by $473 billion from 2017 through 2026.
The latest CBO analysis came after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said earlier Wednesday that the Senate would vote early next week to begin debate over repealing the ACA.
During a lunch meeting Wednesday, President Donald Trump pushed Senate Republicans to forge an agreement on health-care legislation before leaving town for the August recess.
“We have to stay here. We shouldn’t leave town, and we should hammer this out and get it done,” the president said.
