BART says crime is on the rise across the transit system’s stations and on its trains and is short 40 police officers of a full roster.

BART Police Chief Carlos Rojas told local TV station KRON that he currently has 184 officers, but needs another 40 to have the total 224 officers for which BART has budgeted.

“I’m seeing it throughout the state,” Rojas said. “Crime, crime increasing, and I don’t see us any different.”
