Qatar Airways will push ahead with its plans to buy its way into American Airlines despite the world’s largest airline’s attempt to sidestep the Persian Gulf carrier’s advances.

The chief executive of the Gulf carrier said Thursday it was pressing on with plans to buy a 10 percent stake in Fort Worth-based American (Nasdaq: AAL) even after its U.S. rival terminated a code sharing agreement between the two.
