The hard brand Yotel is at the front line of luxury affordable accommodation. Heavily associated with airline travel and inspired by the compact accommodation of Japanese hotel cabins, Yotel’s cabins are designed around their guests to provide them with the maximum comfort and luxury at a fraction of the cost of more typical hotels. Conceived of by founder Simon Woodroffe after he was upgraded to first class and realised the possibilities of creating small-scale luxury accommodation, Yotel opened its first hotels in London at Gatwick and Heathrow airports in 2007, with its next property welcoming guests in Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport in 2008.

The concept behind Yotel is to offer busy travelers economic places to sleep while at the same engendering a sense of community by providing guests with co-working spaces, communal areas for social events and, of course, all the modern conveniences you would expect from a high quality hotel.

Yotel’s first city property opened in New York in 2011 and boasted 713 rooms close to Times Square. This was a big leap for the company in terms of moving out of purely airport accommodation and into urban zones where travelers could avail of the quality cabins in dense, cosmopolitan locations. In 2014, plans were announced for a new city centre property in Singapore, with plans for London and Boston following in 2016. The chain currently operates 6 hotels London, Paris, Amsterdam, New York and Boston, with Singapore and San Francisco hotel openings in the pipeline. The new YotelAir brand was launched in 2017 which will take over the operations of Yotel’s airport hotels, with its first new property set to be an adaptive reuse project in San Francisco.

Let´s take a look at some projects currently underway by Yotel:

Yotel Amsterdam

The cabin hotel will be located in the Amsterdam Noord area of the city, and will feature “significant outdoor space, an outdoor terrace next to the water, boat docking spaces and a unique sustainable water system”.

Yotel Dubai

The hotel is part of a major new development located on Sheikh Zayed Road, directly adjacent to the upcoming Dubai Water Canal Project and at the gateway of Business Bay, the city’s fastest growing business district.

Yotel Miami

The mixed-use development project will also include multiple retail and food and beverage outlets along with high-end residential units, all just steps from Biscayne Bay.
