A South Florida driver working for ride-hailing company Uber was fined this week for not speaking English, just days before the ordinance authorizing the citation is lifted.
A Miami-Dade County ordinance states that drivers of ride-hailing services such as Uber and Lyft, referred to as “transportation networking entities,” must be able to “communicate” in the English language. The ordinance went into effect last year.
