Ride-hailing service Uber Technologies Inc. this week began allowing drivers to collect tips through its app for the first time in a handful of markets, as part of an outreach effort to drivers who had long clamored for such a feature.

The Associated Press reports that tipping via app was rolled out June 20 in Houston, Seattle and Minneapolis/St. Paul. San Francisco-based Uber plans to introduce it in all its U.S. markets by the end of July.
