A proposal that could reduce Eighth Avenue South from four lanes to two in the Berry Hill and Melrose areas is being resisted by a coalition of businesses.

“I see the traffic on this street every day, and I know what happens any time they take a lane away here for construction or an accident or things like that,” Gabriel Smith, CEO of CEAdvisory and spokesman of the Citizens Against 8th Avenue Gridlock coalition, told The Tennessean.

Metro officials say no plan for the corridor has been finalized.
