Weeks after a 16-foot tall excavator hit a bridge over I-440 in Raleigh, a contractor has been selected to make the repairs.

The Melbourne Road bridge in west Raleigh has been closed since May 9 when a tractor-trailer hauling the massive construction equipment collided with the bridge.

The N.C. Department of Transportation said Wednesday it has awarded a $259,500 contract for the repairs to Virginia-based Freyssinet Inc.
