Hawaii will receive a direct payment of $2.5 million from Volkswagen as part of a multi-state settlement, state Attorney General Doug Chin and state Office of Consumer Protection Executive Director Stephen Levins said on Wednesday.

The German carmaker agreed to the settlement after claims that it violated state consumer protection laws by using a defeat device software during diesel emissions tests.
