The Jacksonville Port Authority has taken a major step forward in its quest to deepen the shipping channel in the St. Johns River: The federal government has committed $17.5 million in the upcoming fiscal year to help with the project.
The Army Corps of Engineer’s civil work program construction work plan, posted to its website Wednesday, includes the money to “initiate construction of the deep draft navigation improvements at Jacksonville Harbor.”
