Jeff Bezos‘s company is reportedly looking to expand its portfolio to the multibillion-dollar pharmacy market.
Over the past few years, Amazon has held “at least one annual meeting” to evaluate whether or not it should jump into the pharmacy space, according to sources familiar with the matter. But this year, as consumers move toward paying for health care and high-deductible plans continue to rise, the online retailer wants to hire a business lead to figure out how to go about it, says the report.
Still, it’s not yet a done deal. The new hire, who would be part of the consumables business, would still need to formulate a strategy. Two weeks ago, Amazon posted a new job looking for a “PHC Licensing Program Manager” to support its “Professional Healthcare Program.” According to the description, the responsibilities include submitting state license applications and maintaining “documents and databases for state board of pharmacy licensing requirements.”
Jeff Bezos’s Amazon empire has expanded into food retail with Amazon Fresh, video streaming services with Amazon Prime, web hosting with Amazon Web Services, and let’s not forget rocket ships and space trips with Blue Origins. Last month, Amazon announced its plan to roll out operations in Australia.
