Futures pointed to a modest open for Asian markets on Monday, with several major exchanges closed for a Labor Day public holiday.

Australia’s SPI futures traded at 5,905, a touch lower than the ASX 200‘s last close at 5,924.06. Nikkei futures in Chicago traded at 19,195 and Osaka futures were at 19,240; the Japanese benchmark index last finished at 19,196.74.

The weeks sets up for several key events, including central bank decisions in Australia and the United States, a second round of presidential election in France and corporate earnings.

In the currency market, the dollar index, which measures the greenback against a basket of currencies, traded at 98.97, dropping from levels above 99.00 reached in the previous week.

Among other currency majors, the yen traded at 111.23 to the dollar, while the Australian dollar fetched $0.7483. The euro traded at $1.0908.
