Sean Hayes, a former House committee staffer, has been appointed HHS’ deputy assistant secretary for oversight and investigations.

Hayes was previously staff director on the House Oversight and Budget Reform Committee’s Health Care, Benefits and Administrative Rules Subcommittee. The subcommittee has jurisdiction over healthcare policy, Medicare, Medicaid and Society Security.

Hayes also worked a staffer for the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. He has been a Congress staff member since at least 2009.

Also this week Stephen Parente, a healthcare economist, was nominated to be HHS’ assistant secretary of planning and evaluation. He has been an avid critic of the Affordable Care Act.
