Detroit Medical Center hospitals are now considered in good standing with state and federal regulators after DMC Children’s Hospital of Michigan passed an unannounced follow-up inspection April 3-4, according to a decision released Tuesday by the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services reported by The Detroit News.
Children’s Hospital failed an inspection in January.
Earlier this year, a Detroit News investigation found problems with dirty surgical instruments at the health system, which prompted the inspections.
DMC said it spent $1.2 million to fix its sterile surgical processing systems.
The violations had put the hospitals at risk of losing Medicare and Medicaid funding.
Regulators also cleared Detroit-based Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Center of infection control standard violations following a surprise inspection at the end of March.
