Lawmakers in the Tennessee House of Representatives continue to work on an alternative to Gov. Bill Haslam’s transportation-funding proposal, one that would not increase the state’s gas tax.

According to The Tennessean, however, their alternative appears to be a non-starter in the Senate.

“It’s a user fee and we want to keep it that way,” Lt. Gov. Randy McNally said Thursday, according to The Tennessean.
