This past weekend’s NCAA Final Four basketball games at University of Phoenix Stadium and concerts and fan fest events in downtown Phoenix gave a big boost to ridership on the Metro light rail system.
The Phoenix-area transit system hosted 220,000 riders Friday through Sunday. That is a 68 percent jump compared to an average weekend.
The Arizona Diamondbacks also had their season opener at Chase Field Sunday and there were also festivals in Phoenix and Tempe.
