The Delta Queen steamboat is one step closer to carrying passengers on overnight trips once again.
The U.S. Senate passed a bill on Monday that would change laws that limited the steamboat’s usage.
The 1966 Safety at Sea law prohibited wooden ships of a certain size from carrying passengers on overnight trips. Exemption from that rule was standard practice until 2008. The new legislation would suspend those safety requirements through 2028.
