Matson Inc. said Tuesday it has added the Japanese prefecture Okinawa to its trans-Pacific service.

The Honolulu-based shipping company said it received all necessary permits and arrived at the port of Naha for the first time on Saturday.

The new port will be part of Matson’s expedited China-Long Beach Express service, which is is four days faster than any existing service from the U.S. West Coast, according to a statement.
