As the N.C. Department of Transportation advances on the massive, $36.9 million Capital Boulevard Bridge Project, frustration for commuters on Peace Street in downtown Raleigh is about to increase.

Starting Wednesday, a traffic shift on Peace Street will take the existing pattern down to one lane in either direction. For a corridor that sees 60,000 vehicles per day, it’s big news. Derrick Matthews, NCDOT’s assistant resident engineer assigned to the project, admits it’s likely to be a pain point.
